Cambridge University Social Democratic Party [CUSDP]
The CUSDP would be a a student-led political wing of the Social Democratic Party in the UK.
The SDP stands for what it takes to the silent majority of this country: combining left-wing economics with a more conservative social policy. It's core values are a fairer, more equal society that respects and strifes to uphold community, family and the nation-state.
The SDP aims to become a new voice in British politics overcoming the duopoly that now reins.
Britain, post-Brexit and Covid-19, now has a once in a lifetime opportunity to renew itself as a modern, tolerant and outward-looking country. We believe that economic renewal means a fundamentally rebalanced economy towards new forms of highly-skilled manufacturing, towards all regions of the UK and towards all individuals through more progressive forms of taxation.
Contrary to the claims of modern-day liberals and libertarians people do not exist in isolation. We are all part of multi-layered communities – the nation, the locality and the family. We exercise rights but also responsibilities and our programme reflects this across a broad range of policies. Greater individual responsibility, trust and social solidarity will, we believe, make Britain a happier and more productive nation.
Ultimately, the society wants to be a place where debate, disagreement and open discussion can roam free. Whether it be that you disagree with our policies but what to learn more, or agree but do not fully understand them, all are more than welcome!
