Cambridge University Medical Ethics Society [Methix]
The Society’s aims shall be to promote creative thought and reflection in medical ethics and to encourage students to consider the ethical implications of their actions in the clinical setting, as well as those resulting from the institutional framework in which they work.
The Society will organise discussion groups and debate workshops, the topics of which will be decided by the committee members, and / or members of the society by vote. A yearly conference will also be hosted.
Topics for discussion will include issues in medical ethics that confront doctors in their daily roles - such as consent and confidentiality.
We also encourage discussion and debate in issues that affect the medical profession as a whole. For example: euthanasia, private healthcare and distributive justice.
In our ever-changing society, it is also imperative to consider the impacts of future changes on medical practice - e.g. the effects of introduction of AI in healthcare.
Fundamentally we believe that discussions and debates should be driven by the members of the community and hence our aim is to provide a framework for this to take place.
