Cambridge University Impact Investment [CUII]
Impact investment has recently been coined 'the future of finance'. It is a niche and fast growing field which currently has no representative platforms in the Cambridge University circle. Impact investment encompasses investments made with the intention to generate positive social and environmental impacts while expecting a financial return; on a global scale.
This society is unique in it's aims to address many of the current economic issues from the standpoint of responsible investment and the strategies currently being used to assess companies. I have been in close contact with the KCL sister society who have been running for several years and consistently arrange unique and highly successful events on the topic. There are a number of influential businesses such as UBS which are gearing their company profile towards the idea of impact investment banking and as a result are keen to have speakers representing them to speak to our students here and introduce them to the field.
As well as events and career advice resources which this society will provided from the start, as we grow it will be possible to implement some of the larger projects that we hope to conduct in association with other universities. This includes research groups and impact analysis projects which are valuable skill building opportunities not currently available here.
The society will not only appeal to economists and those specifically studying finance, indeed, as a Natural scientist myself , it is evident that the interest is wide ranging; especially given that a large portion of the focus is on ethics/ environmental issues and global analyses for company improvement and sustainable development. There are so many components to impact investment that it will allow a truly interdisciplinary membership group, sharing knowledge, ideas and contributing expertise as a whole, which individually would not be achievable.
