Cambridge University Women's Boat Club competes annually against Oxford University in the Boat Races, a side-by-side race over a 4 mile course on the Thames in London. We race our top eight, the Blue Boat, and our reserve boat, Blondie, at this event. We also have a lightweight squad who race Oxford in the lightweight boat races, a unique event in university rowing, pitting two crews of high standard against each other in the knowledge that neither has a size advantage, leaving the outcome to be decided by will and strength alone. Both the openweight and lightweight squads also have a spare pair race against Oxford, and members of the squad race at a variety of other elite competitions throughout the season. In addition to consecutive wins in all three eight's boat races, some of our club's recent victories have included the University category at the Women's Head of the River Race, and Championship Gold at the British University Championships.
A squad comprised of the most determined and talented students from the 31 college boat clubs take part in a year long trialling process, culminating in final selection for our two openweight and one lightweight crew. If you think you could be one of them, get in touch with the President at firstname.lastname@example.org, or find out more about the club and the trialling process at our website: www.cuwbc.org.
To date, the cumulative win tally at the Women's Boat Races is 43-30 for Cambridge.
