Clubs & Societies Directory
The Reel Club does Scottish Country Dancing [mostly like ceilidh dancing, slightly like Highland, rather like reeling]. We meet at the Wesley Methodist Church on King Street on Mondays and Wednesdays 8-10pm.
Every Monday we run a social dancing session, which begins with a small amount of teaching of the basic steps and figures, then social dancing for the second half. Everyone is welcome on Mondays, from beginners to old hands: no partner, experience, kilt or Scottish ancestry required.
On Wednesdays during full term there is an advanced technique class which is run jointly with the Cambridge RSCDS branch.
The cost is £2 (students) / £4 (non-students) weekly, or £15 / £30 for the whole term. If it's your first or second week then it's free, so there's really no excuse not to give it a go! Refreshments and biscuits are provided.
Every so often, we hold special dances. We run a ceilidh in Freshers' Week (and whenever else we feel like it), and jointly with RSCDS we hold a Winter Dance and a Summer Dance in Michaelmas and Easter respectively. In Lent term, on alternate years, we host the Oxford & Cambridge Highland Ball.
