The Cambridge Rare Earths Society (CRE) aims to promote inter-disciplinary study and research network focusing on rare earth issues within Cambridge University, in order to enable better resource utilisation, fundamental societal benefits, human health as well as environmental sustainability. In pursuance of its aims the CRE is to organise fieldwork, to provide workshops and seminars, and to develop international collaborations in the area of rare earths.
As a subject-based society, the CRE can incorporate various research topics surrounding rare earth elements, from the perspectives of material sciences, chemistry, physics, manufacturing and engineering, international relations, business and management, industrial ecology, and geography and environmental governance, etc. The CRE encourages an integral thinking and sustainable practices to achieve resource efficiency and shared value for the human society in the long term.
