Cambridge Latin Circle (Circulus Latinus Cantabrigiensis) [CLC]
How did the humanists learn Latin so effectively? By using it as a spoken language. We – The Cambridge Latin Circle – are a small group of alumni of the Accademia Vivarium Novum in Rome, where students still learn Latin through Renaissance-style immersion. If you have previous experience of spoken Latin or are merely enthusiastic about trying, we’re trying to expand our Cambridge network and would love to hear from you.
Our activities involve weekly lessons in Latin using the spoken method for absolute beginners and the more advanced, Latin-speaking pub trips, reading and discussion of classical texts conducted in Latin, and more accessible spoken Latin events, such as introductions and singalongs to extant neo-Latin songs.
