CUCOS is a student-operated music society founded in May 2007 by 12 students at the University of Cambridge. It aims to strengthen the understanding and appreciation of both eastern and western cultures through oriental music by introducing a new generation of musical perspectives to the communities in the UK.
As a Cambridge University student society, we make a significant contribution to our culturally diverse city through music that spans a wide range of elements, from popular culture to traditional Chinese music. Our society consists of a Chinese Instrument Department (CID) and a Western Instrument Department (WID), often combining eastern and western music to create a distinctive performance style. Our unique atmosphere encourages musicians to display their abilities and pursue their passion in music, and we often invite external guests to perform with us. In addition, we show our appreciation for the hard work of our musicians by holding social events every term, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds, all with a common interest in music.
