Hope Week 6 is treating you well. I may have spent more of the past week listening to Taylor Swift than is reasonable or healthy. I hope you are dealing with term a bit better than me!
The big news from CUSU this week is that it’s the National Demo for Free Education. Wednesday will see thousands of students from across the country taking to the streets of London to make clear their demands for free education. Cambridge students have a long history of campaigning for free education and making the case that education (whether at University, through vocational training or otherwise) is a public good that helps us progress as a society.
With the general election around the corner and the major parties shying away from higher education policy, it is vital that politicians are reminded of the power of the student vote. Expect Wednesday to be the start of a concerted effort by student activists across the UK to bring education to the top of everybody’s agenda.
Your reps have asked CUSU to support the demo, so expect to see your sabbs out in London making Cambridge students’ voices heard. For those of you keen to get involved, we will be providing coach transport to the event in London and also organising a solidarity event in Cambridge for people who can’t make the trip. Check out the Facebook events here:
And if you are passionate about education, don’t forget that you still have time to run to be a Faculty Rep and help shape the educational experience of students in your course, department and faculty! Nominations close on the 18th and voting is on the 25th.
I hope to see plenty of you on Wednesday!
