I hope that Week 2 is treating you well and that those of you who succumbed to Freshers flu are feeling rested and well again. Hopefully you'll find time amidst the essay deadlines, supervisions, etc this week for something fun - be sure to read through the events below to see if something takes your fancy.
Back in the CUSU office, your reps have been getting started on some of the major campaigns that will be running this term. Look out for more from us over the next couple of weeks on issues like voter registration and Faculty Rep elections. We will also be bringing you new ways to get involved with our democratic processes so that your voice is central to the decisions CUSU makes.
Helena, the CUSU Access Officer, is currently working on the incredibly successful CUSU Shadowing Scheme - the biggest student-led access initiative in the country. The Scheme is open to sixth-formers and prospective mature students from backgrounds with little experience of higher education and provides them with the opportunity to shadow a Cambridge student and find out what Cambridge is really like. If you would like to help raise potential students' aspirations by taking part, sign up now at bit.ly/shadowscheme. Scheme dates: Thursday 22nd - Saturday 24th January, Thursday 29th - Saturday 31st January, Thursday 5th - Saturday 7th February.
If you want to find out more about what your CUSU reps are doing and help us to decide on policy for the upcoming year, be sure to come to CUSU Council on Monday night at 7:15pm in the Old Examination Hall on the New Museums Site. We'll be discussing things like plans for the General Election and how to make CUSU events more inclusive, and voting on policy issues like whether or not to attend a National Demo for Free Education. You'll get the chance to ask questions to your elected reps, discuss and debate the motions and, if that's not exciting enough, there will be free pizza!
Lastly, if you haven't got one already, be sure to think about buying an NUS Extra Card to benefit from a huge number of deals on the high street and online. You can order yours now at http://www.nus.org.uk/en/nus-extra/.
Have an excellent Week Two - and don't forget to turn your clocks back on Saturday night!
